PAINTING A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR WOMEN
Inspired by my visit to Kenya with my family in August of 2006
I developed a fundraising project, “Painting a Brighter Future for Women” in partnership with The Boma Project, bomaproject.org.
I have been creating a series of original oil paintings of the native pastoral nomadic people of northern Kenya which helps to fund women’s small business development there with donations from
the sale of the original artworks and fine art giclee reproductions of these images.
In 2011 the project expanded to include other areas of the world, beginning with a cultural series of the people of Bhutan. My partnership in Bhutan through the Bhutan Foundation/Tarayana Foundation directs donations to the Buzip Programme, which provides child care support for parents in rural communities. Women are empowered through the program by allowing them the opportunity to pursue education, training, employment, or involvement in local governance. In 2012 I began work on a series of paintings of the Kuna indigenous people of Panama, with intended partnership with the Balu Uala Foundation.
